Ann Arbor Tours

Urban Hunter-Gatherer Tour & Cooking Class

We’ll start the tour at the heart of Ann Arbor’s food scene – the Farmer’s Market! Located in the historic Kerrytown neighborhood, the market offers a wide array of local produce, meat and other products. After exploring the Farmer’s Market and gathering some seasonal produce to focus our meal around, we’ll head on the hunt for other ingredients. Stops will include the world famous Zingerman’s Delicatessen, where you’ll have a chance to taste 100 year-old balsamic vinegar, amazing cheeses and meats, and anything else you’d like to sample. We’ll also visit the local fishmonger and butcher, sample some smoked fish, and learn a little about Ann Arbor’s hippie history with a stop at the People’s Food Co-op. After our shopping bags are full we’ll head to the kitchen for a hands-on cooking class with the results of our hunting and gathering. You’ll enjoy a delicious 3 or 4 course lunch that you helped to make!

4 hours, $325 for up to 4 people, plus cost of food

Craft Cocktail Tour

Ann Arbor has a vibrant craft cocktail scene and on this tour you’ll have a chance to explore it with an industry insider and cocktail expert. Cocktails wouldn’t exist without spirits, so our tour begins at a distillery making artisan products from Michigan ingredients. You’ll spend some time learning about distillation and sampling their products in the tasting room before venturing on to explore two of Ann Arbor’s best bars. During our short walks through the city’s Old West Side, Downtown and Kerrytown neighborhoods your guide will share stories about the history and culture of Ann Arbor. In the bars, the guide will help you navigate the menus and explain as much or as little as you’d like about the ingredients and techniques that go into your glass.

2.5 hours, $225 for up to 6 people, plus cost of drinks

Ann Arbor City Tour

On this walking tour you’ll visit several sites associated with the University of Michigan, which is both the literal and figurative heart of the city of Ann Arbor. You’ll see where JFK gave his speech launching the Peace Corps, and visit the Diag, home to many counter-culture protests through the decades. But Ann Arbor is more than just the university, and as we stroll through the compact and walkable downtown core, you’ll have a chance to see the city through “townie” eyes. We’ll explore public art, check out beautiful 19th century architecture, and visit the world famous Zingerman’s Delicatessen in the historic Kerrytown neighborhood.

3 hours, $250 for up to 6 people

“Tammy was a fabulous tour guide. On our tour of the University of Michigan she was a wealth of knowledge about the school and the city. Gave a real flavor of Ann Arbor.  Highly recommended her!”

A Tammy’s Tastings tour takes you to an interesting destination and helps you experience it through its distinctive food and drink culture. And since you can’t eat all the time, tours also include history, music, and cultural explorations. Each tour is customized to its location, but typically include a mix of fine dining and casual eats, hands-on cooking classes, meeting interesting people, and visiting cocktail bars and distilleries, breweries and/or wineries. Join my mailing list to learn about future dates or contact me for a private group tour.

“The mix of curated events was fantastic. Highlights were Saturday morning’s class at the Supper Club, Rum Tour, and Cane & Table. Those all felt like things I never would have had the opportunity to do on my own. The size of the group was perfect. Small enough to feel like you got to know everyone, but big enough that you didn’t feel stuck with the same people every minute of the day.”

“I really liked how much stuff was covered. Food, drink, history, architecture, culture, music! Really well thought out.”

“I think the best thing about the experience is not having to figure out/plan were to go and when and how, which can be time consuming and hit or miss as a visitor to a place for the first time.”

“Nice to get off tourist track and do really interesting tours and dinners.”
