The first time I taught my Drink Like a Monk class, back in 2012, it was hard to find good beer cocktail recipes to include for that portion of the class. That’s definitely not a problem today! I had an abundance of recipes to choose from, and we ended up making four different ones in the class. The Sawbuck was my favorite. I love rye in all its guises, so the combination of rye whiskey and a rye IPA makes this recipe pretty irresistible to me.
1 oz rye whiskey
1/2 oz cinnamon-infused simple syrup
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz Nux Alpina walnut liqueur
3 oz Rye IPA (I used the Corktown from Atwater in Detroit)
Combine all ingredients except beer in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into ice-filled beer tulip glass or old-fashioned glass. Top with beer and gently stir.
