I like to call the 1970s to 1990s the “dark ages” of cocktails. It was a pretty dire time for drinking, but those decades also helped pave the way to the cocktail renaissance we have been experiencing since the early 2000s. When I started thinking about how to offer online classes, this one immediately sprang to mind as being really appropriate. Maybe even better than doing it in-person! While the drinks weren’t always great (although don’t worry, the ones you’ll be making will be), there are some amazing stories, audio and visuals that really lend themselves to this format. So come spend some of your social distancing time with Tammy’s Tastings!

How it works:

  • There will be five separate 40-60 minute Zoom sessions, each covering one decade from the 1970s to the 2010s
  • Each session is limited to 8 logins so we can keep things interactive, just like an in-person Tammy’s Tastings class. You can have multiple people sharing your computer screen, so bring your spouse/SO/stranded college kids.
  • I’ll send out a recipe list with ingredients and equipment you’ll need to mix along. Each session will feature 2 “focus” cocktails. But your recipe sheet will include several bonus recipes you can make instead (or as well), if you’re not a fan of the focus drinks or don’t have the ingredients in your lockdown liquor cabinet.
  • Mixing along is not required – even more than my in-person classes, my online classes will feature tons of history and stories plus conversation with your virtual table mates!

The cost of this online class is $25 per login – that’s just $5/session for everyone sharing one computer. Note that if you have a credit in my system from a previous missed class or a 3-class pass, I’ll just deduct the value from whatever you have there, and you can use the remaining credit towards future online or in-person classes. You’ll need to contact me to reserve your space. The time slot you are signing up for right now is the 1970s session. When you’re ready to move on to the 1980s and beyond, you’ll have a variety of different time slots to choose from, so this doesn’t lock you into always doing your session on a particular day/time, and you can coordinate with friends to attend sessions together. (And if you’ve lost your job or have reduced income due to COVID-19, but still want to attend, just let me know! We can work something out!)

Note that for this first session, you don’t need any special equipment to make either of our focus cocktails. But for future sessions, if you’d like to mix along, you will need a measuring device capable of accurately measuring down to 1/4 oz (I like these OXO cups – available online and at Meijer) and a cocktail shaker of some kind. I’m happy to discuss any equipment or ingredient concerns you may have.
