The name amaro – plural, amari – refers to a style of Italian bittersweet herbal liqueur. These complex liqueurs can be a mixologist’s best friend. They add complexity, fascinating flavors, and structure – even when used in small amounts. In this class we’ll talk about the main styles of amari and feature them in cocktails that take advantage of their complex and assertive character.
Note: to get the most out of this class, you will want to have examples of at least a couple of the following, which are readily available examples of the broad styles we’ll be discussing and using.
- Campari, Aperol, or other red aperitivo-style
- Averna
- Amaro Montenegro and/or Amaro Nonino
- Cynar
- Sfumato or Zucca
- Fernet Branca or another Fernet
You’ll receive a list of several recipes in advance so you can pick which drinks you’d like to make in our mix-along time. Online class sessions are limited to a small number of signups so we can keep things interactive. But you can have multiple people sharing your computer screen for a single ticket purchase, so feel free to bring your spouse/SO/stranded (21+) college kids – pricing is per computer connected, not per person!
